Black Hair Complications

Don't Touch My Hair!

It is common knowledge that no one should touch a black woman's hair.  Black men and husbands often joke about how even though their wife's hair is beautiful, it is off limits! Don't touch it, pull it, run your hands through it, nothing!  Also, black women often experience people of other ethnicities being fascinated by our hair and having a desire to touch it.  Without permission! This is a no-no! No one should be putting their hands in your hair! Hair is sacred, it is a part of your body, and you don't put your hands on someone's body without permission. Its that simple!

No I don't workout!
Is it Raining?!

Black women have been using this excuse for years! The fear of sweating out our hair, or getting it wet is constant.  Our hair is not more important than our bodies.  We need to get our priorities straight.  If you weigh 300 lbs but your hair looks good, it's still not cute! I know that is an exaggeration, but it stems from the truth. We must take care of our bodies as well as our hair.  If you have to braid up your hair so you can take a spin class go for it! You might have to put your hair up for a few days , but the results will be worth it.

The Salon is an All Day Affair

Cancel brunch, pick me up early from school, take leave from work, because I'm going to the hair salon.  Whether you have braids, perm, or weave, you know that going to the hair salon is an all day affair.  Bring your lunch, grab a book, and get comfortable because you will likely be ther for the next 3-8 hours.

My Hair Is So Dry...Where's My Coconut Oil?

Okay ladies, now let's be real. You do not have to moisturize your hair but once everyday.  Unless you're doing something strange to dry out your hair, it is really unnecessary.  If you keep your scalp clean and the oil glands are working properly, daily oiling of the hair is not needed.  If you desire a little extra shine, keep the oil light and use natural moisturizers. Hit the strands once in the morning or at night and leave it be!
